Block Print is an ancient hand-stamping technique with roots in Gujarat and Rajasthan. It uses hand-carved wooden blocks as stamps to dye fabrics, mainly cotton, with natural dyes. The technique became popular in India, with Rajasthan, especially Jaipur, as its main historic centre.
It is a work of great patience and focus, where people print the fabrics one by one!
At Raja Pura we have many cotton pieces with intricate details made using this technique!
For example, our ethnic trousers, or our ethnic skirts, our kimonos, or even our cotton scarves!
It is a beautiful handcraft that endures through time!
When you buy a piece printed with block print, you are also helping to keep this ancient technique alive! Remember that it was hand-printed, one by one, block by block... from generation to generation!
Carved wood
